About Bayankhongor Province

Bayankhongor is one of Mongolia's provinces, 640 km from Ulaanbaatar. It takes about 7–8 hours by car, or 10 hours by the daily local bus (ticket about $15). Domestic flights leave Ulaanbaatar twice a week.
Bayankhongor borders the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China to the south. Within Mongolia, it borders Zavkhan and Arkhangai provinces to the north, Uvurkhangai and Umnugovi provinces to the east, and Govi-Altai Province to the west.

Its altitude is 1,859 m above sea level and its population is 26,252. The name Bayankhongor means "rich chestnut-colored."

His Excellency Sodbujamts Khurelbaatar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan, also completed secondary education in Bayankhongor Province, Mongolia.
Five of Mongolia's top ten popular businessmen come from Bayankhongor Province.
A tourist area with the beautiful nature that represents Mongolia, with desert, steppe and forest.
It is one of my favorite regions, as a simple, "good Mongolia" remains that has not been spoiled by tourism. In Bayankhongor Province there are many places worth visiting, starting with real nomads and natural hot springs.

Sightseeing in Bayankhongor Province

About 1 hour southwest of Ulaanbaatar by domestic flight. Near the provincial capital Bayankhongor is Jargalant, famous as a hot spring resort. With 2,000 m high Ikh Bogd Mountain behind it, the surroundings also have dinosaur sites and cave paintings, telling that people have lived and culture has flourished here since ancient times.
