For Mongolians, Naadam, held in the height of summer in July, is the event they are most attached to. July 11 and 12 are the Naadam days, and in each region of Mongolia the songs praising wrestlers, the voices of children on racehorses urging their horses on, the sound of bows and arrows, and the tones of long songs echo. At 11 a.m. on July 11, the Naadam opening ceremony is held at the Central Stadium in the south of Ulaanbaatar. From the stadium entrance, volunteer soldiers in full dress enter on horseback. At the head, volunteer soldiers on nine white horses carry white banners. These banners have been used in state ceremonies since the time of Chinggis Khaan and are made from the hair of 99 white horses. After the soldiers stand the nine banners on a round platform in the center of the stadium, the President delivers an address and the national anthem begins.
